Pakistan’s federal budget deficit surged to Rs 2.3 trillion in the first six months of the fiscal year as government expenditure exceeded Rs 8.2 trillion. Debt servicing accounted for Rs 5.1 trillion, while federal development received only Rs 164 billion. The FBR faced a Rs 384 billion tax shortfall, collecting Rs 5.6 trillion against the target. Despite meeting key IMF conditions, the government borrowed Rs 2.3 trillion to cover the gap.
