The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Mohinder Bhagat won the bypoll in Punjab's Jalandhar West assembly segment by more than 30,000 votes. The AAP is part of the Opposition INDIA bloc in Punjab. With this victory, the AAP will now have 91 MLAs in the 117-member Punjab assembly. The Congress has 15 MLAs, Akali Dal three, BJP two, Bahujan Samaj Party one and one independent.
