Two farmers in Punjab, who were overburdened with debts, decided to end their lives after they saw no way out to pay the loans they had taken from cooperative banks. Jaspal Singh from Fatehgarh Saheb in Punjab committed suicide after he was unable to clear the Rs 20 lakh loan he owed to banks and creditors. The pressure put on him by the lenders, led him to take the extreme step. Lakhvir Singh from Dera Mir Mira in Punjab ended his life because he was not able to clear the Rs 5 lakh loan he had taken.
