Puducherry chief minister V Narayanaswamy on Monday lost the floor test held in Puducherry Assembly following which he submitted his resignation to lieutenant governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. The floor test was necessitated due to a spate of resignations by Congress and DMK MLAs over the past one month that resulted in the government losing majority in the 30-member House. Assembly speaker VP Sivakolundhu announced that the chief minister has failed to prove his majority and adjourned the house sine die. Congress lost the trust vote in Puducherry with just three months left in its five-year-term with assembly elections scheduled in the Union territory arund April-May this year.
