Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the issue of Maratha reservation has garnered wind.  The Marathas, comprising around 33 per cent of Maharashtra's population, have been demanding reservations in education and government jobs for over a decade. In 2019, the state government granted them a 16 per cent reservation, exceeding the 50 per cent cap set by the Supreme Court.
